Default The final test

For the last several weeks I've found my mind wandering to the phrase final test in both versions of the Our Father (Lord's Prayer). I used Bing to search for comments on the meaning (Apocalypse?) and why most churches delete it. Can anyone recall an authoritative explanation?
My Catholic NAB comment is not easy to understand.
