The first thing that I noticed when insurance changes were being considered was an increase in the premium amount that was taken out of my check. The next renewal year seemed to have increased between 8 to 10% for family coverage. That was back in 2011 and my insurance coverage was with BCBS under a corporate employer. Now it is 2013 and I work for the state of NC. My medical insurance is again with BCBS under a much larger group. The premium cost is slightly less than $8,000 per year for medical insurance alone. I thought that the cost of health insurance was supposed to be decreasing!
Just as a clarification, I do not make over $200,000 per year or even half of that. I am certainly not considered to be in the higher income brackets. The deduction from my salary is over 15% of gross income. Since the health insurance costs were around 20% in my previous position two years prior maybe the health costs have decreased.
