Whitney: God's Wandering Child...

"Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit."

~Psalm 147:5~

The shocking news arrived on Saturday, February 11th, 2012 at just before 4:00 P.M. PST. Whitney Houston, the "Queen of Pop" music had died. The various media jumped into action, scrambling to dig up facts, background, video...anything and everything they could find on her life.

Much has been said. No doubt, much more will come. To go into detail here would simply be redundant. Therefore, we will only touch on enough information to fit the context of this story...

She was Whitney Houston, born August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. By age 11, she had begun appearing on stage as a member of the junior gospel choir at her local Baptist church. Over the next few years, Ms. Houston paired with her mother, Cissy Houston, and sang in various New York night clubs. Success came naturally to Whitney, her God given talents were almost immediately apparent.

The small girl with the huge voice signed her first recording contract at age 18, with Clive Davis, head of the Arista Record label. It was no surprise that the young, beautiful, and very talented girl from gospel music roots was an instant success! For the next two decades, she would gather enormous fame and riches in both music and film...

However, by the year 2000, her "personal demons" had begun to drag her down, both professionally and personally. Her bright career and stunning features had begun to decline, stolen by a quagmire of drugs, alcohol, and personal stressors. A number of different stories were starting to surface which painted a picture of a very troubled lady, lost in an unmerciful downward spiral.

From 2000-2009, she began a pattern of erratic behavior. It became commonplace to miss her professional obligations. And even more troubles would develop: major law suits, the death of her father, and the ravages of a troubled marriage and divorce to name a few.

And, all the while, the drugs and alcohol continued to flow. She was in and out of rehab programs, and attempts to revive her early career success failed to meet expectations. Despite all of this, she was able to maintain her well established "Iconic" status as a consummate entertainer.

Yet, one has to wonder one important question from a religious standpoint:

Did Ms. Houston completely desert her spiritual upbringing, or was she desperate to find it once again? Only Whitney and the Lord God know that answer, as it should be.

The influences from the evil one can be so enticing. They will befall even those who practice the strictest of Godly lives at times. All Satan needs is a "toe hold," and he can wreak a person, and bring down all the lives around them at the same time. He is an unyielding monster, full of hatred!

And so we end with this. It is God's place to decide each person's motives, sincerity of heart, actions, and eternal fate. Many loose their way at times in their walk with God. The important thing is simply this:

We will all struggle in this life. However, we must always endeavor to keep watch over our souls; for we never know when or where we may loose them!
