1Thessalonians 5:12-13," And to esteem them very highly in love for their work sake," The praises that we received from people can be addictive and deceiving. People would do and go through much for popularity sake. People had, and some will steal, lie cheat, do harm mentally and physically, betrayed other and be betrayed all for the sake of praises and being popular. To be a messenger of God, is not a popularity contest. That does mean that we be destructive in relationships that we have with the people of God, nor does it mean that I can't preach or Labour in God's kingdom without hearing amen all the time or a pat on the back.Whatever gift or office we have in God Kingdom, do it in love, humility, grace, and sincerity.
Judges 2:1-4,"Wherefore I said, I will not drive them out from before you, but they shall be as thorns in your side,"Pains and discomforts are often associated with some sort of punishment that has been inflicted on someone, and we overlook sometime the benefit of our thorns. Pains of a struggle, pains of defeat, the hurt of losing something, and the thorns of something that won't go away are also the very things that make us stronger and builds good character, and make us better people.
Deuteronomy 5:2,"The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb." I'm not condoning nor justifing any under ground activity, but you got to admit that the way they do business has some level of honor. Those who conduct there business in the under ground world have only their word, yes sometimes business deals does go bad, but the great percentages of their deals go well because their covenants are golden. I know we live in a complex world and sometimes things do go wrong and we can't keep our word a the time, but it is a shame when we as Christian can't trust one another's word, when the words that are spoken in the dark are more tust worthy than our. Thank God that we can repent and turn from that error of deception.
Colossion 4:6,"Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt," One of the valuable lessons that I learned while growing up is, it's not what you say, but how you say it. I'm not in service of tell people what they want to hear, nor I'm not in business to hurt people either. If people are going to improve their lives, it is going to take both the truth and encouraging words and events. Sure speak the truth, but speak it in love, grace and choosing our words wisely for those sensitive moments.
Psalms 17:15,"l shall be satisfied, " Human nature is not born to be satisfied, it consistently must be taught to be so.Do we ever get satisfied? Yes we do, when we eat a meal something within us says thats enough, when bills are payed we have a since of joy, when we have a house and a car and family is taken care of we do feel a since of satisfaction. Oh but human nature, it's greed says thats not enough get more, you deserve more, complaint. The word of God has warned us against such unsatisfition, by tell us to be content in every situation that we finds ourselves in.Again that is something we go to consistently teach ourselves. Matthew 19:20,"All these things have I kept from my youth up," There is a saying that says,"The more I know, the more I realize I don't know," I don't care how long one been preaching, been on the deacon' s board, been in the choir, taugh sunday school, and how many degrees one have, there is something you didn't hear and so much more to learn. This is true about every aspect of our lives and even more true with God in whom we serve. Nobody has God down packed, there is a higher hight and a deep depth with God, always.
Jeremiah 29:11,"For I know the thoughts that I think towards you," As we live, being naive does fade and we realize that we can't always believe what people say to us. I have been around the best, people who can look you straight in the eyes with sincere gestures and say how much they love and care for you, and in their thoughts they would like to do harm, or see harm done to you. We serve a God who sincerely care and love us and have manifest it when his only son had died for us on the cross for our sins. Throught Jesus we have life and peace. St.John 8:10,"Where are those thine accusers?" Have you ever noticed how some people will demand and make a public scene about other people's sins and will not rest until justice be served?Oh, but when the table has turned and their sins have been pointed out thats the time to be merciful and understanding.
