I could still remember a preaching i heard from a Catholic priest in 1984 that sometimes we Christians give messages that Christian life is smooth as silk. Or I remember a pointer when sharing the gospel to people not to tell them Christian life is hard. Even heard a preacher tell Christian life is not hard but impossible.
Yes some days are overwhelming. Let me quote 2 Corinthians 4:7-10. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed, we are perplexed but not in despair.
Persecuted but not forsaken; cast down but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be manifest in our body.
The Bible used the term abiding in Jesus. A few days ago i started assembling a storage shed by myself as a challenge. I struggled through it and through God's grace i made it through. Abiding in Jesus is harder but through God's grace and mercy success is more certain.
Retired and getting old, what could be the best continuation for me?The answer is continue with Jesus.
Just as i followed the instuction for assembling the shed I believe is similar with our life with God. God had the parts and instructions for our life with Him and as we seek and follow Him we see progress along the way. Yes we fail at times but God is gracious and merciful to help us get back again.
For those who are young and younger than me, you don't have to wait for retirement to begin a life with Jesus. I believe the earlier one starts with Jesus the better. For those who are about my age and over, having a life with Jesus is still the most rewarding way to go.
I have a storage shed that requires two or more people to assemble and i have an agreement with someone to assemble it. Because it is scheduled for next week and i got curious if one person can do it and i can not wait so i tried how far i can go assembling it by myself. My wife works in the afternoon so i can not force her to help me.
As I set up the base and needed to install the panels or walls i needed someone to hold the panel but since i am alone i had to improvise ways so that the panels will not fall. Somehow i managed to continue. Throughout the day i realized the power of two or the value of help. For example as i have to connect the parts somebody have to hold the angle or channel while i put in the screw. Same thing with the nuts and bolts , and tools. I needed someone to help me even just to hold a part or hand me some little pieces.
What this got to do in a Christian blog ? I used to not realize the value of even a little help even from me or others. I realized now that even a little help goes a long way. When our Lord Jesus multiplied loaves and fishes He started with the loaves and fish of a lad ( John 6:9). Our Lord also praised the widow's giving of what can be considered a dime in the treasury because the widow gave all that she had.
Did you see the power of two or even the value of help ? Do you also know that help is one of the spiritual gifts ? (1 Corinthians 12:28 ). By the way it could save me a lot of trouble if i learned how to wait. Remember someone is supposed to do it or help me next week . Waiting on God is another lesson but that is for another blog or another story.
Let Jesus Christ our Lord be praised once more and forever more!
Who among us here will continue on something knowing failure, rejection, humiliation, futility, tremendous loss, death awaits us ? If anyone of us will just face one of the things mentioned is enough for us to run away.
But our Lord Jesus faced all of these and more for us.
How did i come out with these statement ? I was experiencing far less than what were mentioned above when I prayed to the Lord and i believe the Holy Spirit strengthened me by pointing me to our Lord just as He did to our fellow Christians and perhaps to you.
Perhaps you are saying i am over reacting but may i say maybe not because it is better to be prepared.
Are we prepared for anything ? Only Jesus can give us the courage and the strength to face anything.
Let Jesus Christ our Lord be praised both now and forever ! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
Last night I was about 8 hours away from losing one or both friends. So i prayed to the Lord to help me , because the decision i had to make will favor one and disappoint the other.
Here is the situation . We ,my wife and i are about to change the concrete floor at our backyard by making it bigger or wider. According to one of my friends, there is a Building Code that says the backyard concrete should be not less than two inches below the house slab. While my other friend wanted to go to less than two inches because of the water accumulation problem that happen because of the surrounding ground area.
One of my friends is a retired house inspector while the other is installer. One threatened me if I do not listen to him, that for me to ask him no more. If I listen to the inspector then the other have to charge me more money. or lose him.
Clearly i will lose one or the other, unless God helps.
I search and search for the answer but i could not find it. So i prayed for God to help me.
Because of my Parkinsons i can not move much and also felt i need to go to sleep. It seems God led me to open my books and look for the solution.
As I look at the internet. and moments later the Lord showed the answer. The answer will satisfy the inspector and the installer requirements
Jesus said in John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.
Whatever problem, situation, dilemna, pressure, fear, stress we are going through right now, Jesus already experienced , suffered and overcame.
In fact, Jesus suffered more than anybody in history.
The other day we at church were discussing about our mentors. I could not recall who my major mentor is because i have many mentors. But now i see most of my mentor needs are found in Jesus. The problem is i am slow obeying or following but God's grace which is also found in Jesus is available to us in our present time.
Perhaps we are experiencing different situation which is heavy for us right now but let us be encouraged in and by the Lord Jesus.
Let us further be encouraged by Hebrews 12:1,2. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
