There is a parable by our Lord Jesus found in Luke 12:13-21 about a rich man or prosperous farmer who was planning to build a bigger barn or storage or nowadays a bigger house etc. but is not rich toward God.
Let us ask what does rich toward God mean ? This is answered in Luke 12:22-34.
In summary, we are to seek the kingdom of God. where can we find it ?Through the Bible through reading with prayer and guidance of Holy Spirit and help by true believers. And putting to practice what we read or be doers of the word.
Let's look at verse Luke 12:33 Sell that you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that do not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
If we are serious about God, we will pray and ask how we can best follow Him. Shall we ?
Let's repent for our Lord Jesus could come at any time
It seems in this world our minds could be preoccupied with so many things not related to God. It seems our actions follow more our thoughts more than what we say.
Even the thought of saving time could lead one to consuming so much time. Take for example planning a yard watering system in order to save time. One will then ask how much will it cost ? where to put the timer,? where to get the power ? how much water pressure ? how to prevent backflow ? how far to space sprinkler heads ? who will dig the trenches ? will i need city permit ? how to protect the cable ? how deep is the trench ? will it be regular system or drip system ? all those thoughts to water grass ? which will grow , then needs to be cut or mowed.
Another example is the invention or manufacture of moving vehicles like cars or trucks which are supposed to cut travel time. But now we have too many of them creating heavy traffic which eats our time.
So let us ask ourselves, what occupies our minds ? are they important that we forgot that our Lord Jesus could come at any time ?
God is looking at our hearts but our hearts without God is / are deceived. Why do we remember the crucifixion or death of our Lord Jesus Christ ?
The answer is we remember that He died for our sins but we can also remember that daily, do we ?
Galatians 2:20 came to mind and that verse says (Apostle Paul writing inspired by the Holy Spirit) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless i live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which i now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Verse 21 continues , I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Let us remember the death and resurrection of our Lord. May we also listen with our hearts what God is telling us.
Most of my 65 years of life, it seems i am always pursuing something.Like passing my school exams, doing my assignment at work, trying to look good, paying my bills etc, etc. Even with regard to church, i try to be number one in knowledge and understanding. Although these things look good it seems i am always on the run.
Research showed that most of our sickness came from stress, fears, worries, lack of rest and sleep etc.
It seems God is telling me to relax by letting me hear of a Christian brother tell his testimony. For a long time I never thought he has been living with so much problem yet he is calm, fully trusting the Lord and the Lord took care of his problems.
Does God want us to relax ? I believe yes because He wants us to trust Him. He knows we have needs but for that he does not tell us to work hard but to seek Him first, His kingdom and His righteousness.
Let these soak first and if the Lord will, we will share with you again.
Often we see Christians criiticizing/ critiquing/analyzing/ correcting another Christian. And then we see the other defend himself or herself or make a counter claim or analysis of the former. And then no one seems to be changed and then it seems time and energy wasted. Sometimes people just learn to ignore or avoid one another.Or sometimes certain topics are just put on the shelf or side.
Has anyone encountered these ? What then is the proper thing to do ?
Perhaps we need to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. But how can we do that ? Again let us look, true Christianity is God's work and not from man. How can man hear from God ? God loves a humble person. But how can we be humble ? Perhaps the answer is for us to spend more time in prayer.
Can anyone tell me the meaning of "all" ? Now thatyou have your definition of all, let us apply it.
See if you can apply it to, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and iwith all your mind.
Now is your definition of all still works ?
Also who is the Lord your God ? mine is Jesus Christ. Let us look at our heart, soul and mind. According to the Bible our heart is deceitful above all things (note all again )and desperately wicked .-Jeremiah 17:9. Our soul is dead because of sin of Adam and Eve. Our mind together with our hearts was only evil continually according to Genesis 6:5.
How then can we love God ? We need to be renewed.
Jesus said you must be born again. How can we be born again ? by repenting of our sins and allowing Jesus and/or Holy Spirit to live and guide and lead us.
But you may say, you are a Christian already. May i ask, can you tell the meaning of all ?
Most of our fear involves fear of people. We are afraid of being rejected, or put to shame, or defeated. We are afraid of not measuring up or something.
I was getting a work permit from city hall and was somewhat worried. But later on I was met by respectful person who put myself at ease. Then somehow a thought came to me why am i afraid ? Remember the second commandment " Love your neighbor as yourself". Do you know you are also a neighbor to others ? that means they are to love you also as themselves. Do you get the point ?
God's commandment is for us to love others and for others to love others and that includes you and me.
But of course someone will say but someone did bad thing or things to me. Well that means they also violated God's command. If they do not repent of that they will someday answer to God.
Well does that mean we should trust all people ? Not exactly but love them as you love yourself and hopefully they will love you as they love themselves.
Next time you got afraid of someone, ask yourself why ? maybe they are also afraid of you.
But remember when you love others, even though they may not love you, you have the backing of Almighty God.
On our pastor's preaching last Sunday, i heard the term FOMO which is fear of missing out. FOMO is experienced by people who can't let go of their mobile device. I think he mentioned that survey says there are some who spend half of the day using their mobile device. He mentioned that this could be one source of anxiety.
This morning i woke up with alternative or replacement for FOMO. FOTL , can you guess what it is ? I believe even Solomon knew it long time ago.
FOTL stands for Fear of the Lord.. Proverbs 1:7 says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
I was cleaning up my garage when i ran into a message of the late Billy Graham on Jesus is coming back-why ? when?what are we to do ? The footnote was the message was taken by permission from "Peace with God"by Billy Graham copyright 1953, 1984, Word Publishing, Nashville, Tennessee.
My clipping was taken from Decision January2000 pages 1,2,3.
Billy Graham must have been waiting for Jesus Christ since 1953 about 65 years ago. But Billy has just been called home to be with the Lord.
So for Christians either we see the return of Jesus Christ or God calls us home. Meanwhile let us do what Jesus told us to do through the gospels.
