Psalm 119:7,8 I will praise You with uprightness of heart

Psalm 119:7,8 I will praise You with uprightness of heart

The title and verse is followed by " when I learn Your righteous judgments. Then verse 8 says I will keep Your statutes ;

Oh, do not forsake me utterly.

Let's look at key words and actions: praise God with upright  (just and honest ) heart and when ? when we learn His righteous judgments.

Then comes the doing, the keeping of statutes ; and then humbly begging for mercy.

Simple and direct , isn't it ? By the way this translation in red and bold letters are from  New King James Version or NKJV.

Psalm 119:5,6 Oh,that my ways

Psalm 119:5,6 Oh that my ways...

Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes.

Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.NKJV.

Here looks like the psalmist is lamenting he or she has to resist the flesh or fallen nature that pulls him or her from keeping God's statutes. Wishes his ways are more into following God. Just like us or we are like him.

In the New Testament, we see that in Christ we become a new creature with a new nature, a nature that desires to follow God..

Psalm 119:4 God has commanded us

Psalm 119:4 God has commanded us

Actually Psalm 119:4 says You have commanded us to keep Your precepts diligently.

You there referred to God. NKJV use the term precept which according to dictionary means rule of conduct or action. Perhaps you the reader have better understanding of precept.

By the way Psalm 119 is the longest psalm being composed of 176 verses.By recalling or copying it one verse at a time, we will extract its juice which i believe will hunger us for Jesus.

Psalm 119:3 They also do no iniquity..

Psalm 119:3 They also do no iniquity..

The verse continues ; they walk in His ways. NKJV.

Again another short verse with heavy meaning. Some translation(NIV) says they do no wrong. This verse probably refers to those who are washed by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus Christ ). Also as we see in the New Testament that God honors our honesty and confession over our self-righteousness or proud attitude. My Christian friend told me in a way that our daily life could involve a lot of confessions for the sins we commit.

We can sense God's standard that mere man can not  make it not even the best man can do it on his own  but thank God , His Son fulfilled the requirements of the law. And He gives His righteousness to us.

Sins against the Holy Spirit

Sins against the Holy Spirit

There are two sins against the Holy Spirit that can be committed by Christians. (1) Grieving the Holy  Spirit and (2) Quenching the Holy Spirit

By the way, this blog is an excerpt from a message by a  brother in Christ named Osmundo Sabado, reprinted by permission.

  GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

(1) The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of TRUTH.( John 14:17);So anything false, deceitful, or hypocritical grieves the Holy Spirit.

(2) The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of FAITH (2 Cor.4:13); So doubt, distrust, anxiety, worry, grieves Him.

(3) The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of GRACE (Heb. 10:29) ;So whatever in us Is hard , bitter, malicious, ungracious, unforgiving, or unloving grieves Him .

(4) The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Holiness (Rom. 1:4) ; So anything unclean, defiling, or degrading grieves Him.

(5) (Ep.4:29-31) says-"........Do not grieved the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.......".The Holy Spirit is grieved by all sins ,specially the sin of the tongue.

                                               QUENCHING  THE HOLY SPIRIT

Quench means "to put out ". It is pertinent to the scripture's reference to the Holy Spirit as a fire. When we quench the Spirit, we put the fire out. EXAMPLE:

(1) When we are refusing or rejecting the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we quench Him.

(2) We quench the Holy Spirit when we fail to pray daily , because prayer is the only way to connect  ourselves to God.

(3) When we fail to confess our sins daily, we quench the Holy Spirit.

We sin to the Holy Spirit by grieving and quenching Him. We also know that every body sins almost everyday, if not everyday, to the Holy Spirit.

(to be continued)

When we are having troubles as Christians

When we are having troubles as Christians

I was having my own pity party and i was getting miserable. So again i prayed, search the Bible for answers and let us see what the Bible says.

In 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 we see..

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted , but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed--always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

We see here even apostle Paul suffered or having troubles. You maybe saying our troubles are nothing compared with apostle Paul and you are right but what does it mean if we are encountering our own troubles ?

Perhaps God is bringing us to another level. The enemy may have come up with another attack that we need to raise our level through God's help.

We know the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, meekness and self control.

With this fruit perhaps we need to learn to forgive and obey. Be content and to share, do whatever God is telling us.

Hope this helps. It helped me.

Psalm 119:2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,

Psalm 119:2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,

The verse continues... who seek Him with the whole heart ! NKJV.

Comment: Only through God's help, through His grace and mercy that i can keep those. That's why i need Jesus.

Psalm 119:1 Blessed are the undefiled.

Psalm 119:1 Blessed are the undefiled...

Blessed are the undefiled ( blameless) in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. NKJV

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. NIV

Comment: as i look at this verse, the only time i can do this is when i am close or abiding in Jesus or Jesus is carrying me. How about you ?

When all hope is gone

When all hope is gone

Let God assure us that there is no hopeless case. The Holy Spirit using the life of apostle Paul tells us in Acts 27:20-25.

Paul was prisoner in a ship encountering a severe storm. No sun or stars appeared for many days and sea tempest beating on them and all hope that they would be saved was finally given up.

Now would you like to know what happen next ? If you do then you will grab your Bible and see. If you don't have a Bible ask somebody who has one.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

The title is found in the Bible, in Hosea 4:6. I hope this is not true for any of us but...... These are God's words as written by the prophet Hosea so we Christians need to be careful. Do we research our own doctrines or study what our church teach ?

Often we believe we are right and other Christians are wrong. But what if we are wrong ? So to be in the safe side, know what we believe.
