Year 2016, seems like I am still looking for the best Bible, the one that is easy to read etc. My first encounter with the Bible was in1976, when while cleaning the house of my sister in law, we found a new unread Bible which was given free by American Bible Society, it was King James Version. within that year I decided to buy another Bible which was New Living Translation.
Through the years, I had other translations like Catholic Bilble,NIV, NKJV, study Bibles, discipleship Bibles, Tagalog Bible.Had also small Bible and large print Bibles. Had also other books derived or based on the Bible and i also copied beautiful verses on index cards.
By the way, before the reader thinks i am bragging, i would request the reader to keep reading till the ending of this blog.
So as I think of what could be the best Bible, a thought came to me which is also written in the Bible. The best Bible is the one which is written in our hearts. God said I will put my laws in their mind and write them in their hearts.
Another by the way, Jeremiah 17:9 says , the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked : who can know it ?
My heart is what as Jeremiah described but God promised to give us a new heart and new spirit. So by faith I am longing for the new heart and new spirit.
We must decrease and God must increase. To God be the glory !
The blogger I am talking about is me.To those who are curious, my problem or sin is not waiting for the Lord. People who know me knows I am a slow person but as a Christian I am impatient, I try to rush things and even force things. Why this confession ? I was reading the book of First Samuel, when I came across the life of King Saul. The sin of King Saul or one of his sins is not waiting for Samuel to make the sacrifice.
It is stressed or emphasized in the Bible that the battle is the Lord's but at times I take it as my battle. At work I have learned to follow orders but when it comes to God, I try to do it my way at my own timing, in other words i do not wait for the Lord.
Please pray for me that I learn to wait on the Lord and also act on the proper time with the right heart.
Here on earth we sometimes miss important celebrations like reunions, weddings of others that we must be present, birthday parties, graduations etc, etc,. Like I miss our high school reunion, family reunion and college reunion in the Philippines.
So what is the celebration we can not afford to miss ? I am talking about celebration in heaven when we get to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What does it mean to miss it ? It means we did not make it. What are the possibilities for us not to make it ? One is when we get deceived by the enemy. Another is we have been ignoring God's offer of salvation through Jesus Christ. Another is we could have been too busy with something else that we forget to take care of our spiritual life.
As I write this blog, I had to make sure and pray and meditate too that I does not miss heaven. Are we worried that we will miss heaven someday ? We are not supposed to worry because God wants us to be there someday through His Son and the Holy Spirit. If God wants us to be there, then it is sure for us to be there, is it not ? It is not automatic, we have to do our share or participation. Through faith, repentance and obedience , or acceptance of God's gift.
If you are not sure of your eternal destiny, go to God in prayer, and the Bible says we will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have to constantly remind ourselves of who our God is. The pressure of earning a living while for retired people, the need of keeping ourselves occupied on worthwhile things while our body experiences opposition from aging process. As a Christian and getting old , I try to encourage myself by remembering Moses as written in Deuteronomy 34:7 who at 120 years old still have good eyes and strength.
The world gave us magazines. entertainment, television and movies and shows etc, which could fill our mind and even our subconscious. We find ourselves competing against the enticement of pleasure. The practice of reading the Bible daily, even for a short time will give us strength to fight temptation.
As long as we are in our earthly body also called flesh, we will have struggle but the struggle can be won through Jesus Christ.
Whatever your situation is we can still apply what the apostle Paul wrote about or almost 2000 years ago through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Romans 12:1,2 I beseech you therefore ,brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy , acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
Most human beings are careful. As students we make sure we do our assignments and examinations well. As workers or employees we make sure we do our job well, As citizens we make sure we pay our taxes. As drivers we make sure , our vehicles are in good running order. The list could go on and on.
But have we thought about where we are going after we die ? Most if not all Christians want to go to heaven when that time comes. But are we doing our part to make sure that that is where we are going ? According to the Bible , salvation (simply defined as going to heaven and be with God) is a free gift through faith, not of works lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8,9. While salvation is a gift, let us not forget the next verse Ephesians 2:10 which say we are God's workmanship , created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
We need to do good works not to be saved but we do good works because we are saved. Another verse is Philippians 2:12 which say work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. The next verse explain it Philippians 2:13 For it is God which work in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
The title of this blog is based on the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, who said he who has seen Him (Jesus) has seen God (the Father). Jesus said He is the truth. the resurrection, the way, the life. He said He is the only way to the Father.
These are not ordinary claims. Every human being who come into this world should examine these claims or be allowed to study these claims. How can we study these claims ? The Holy Bible declares who Jesus Christ is and His words, His story, His commandments. Why study His claims ? Jesus Christ Himself warns that many will come in His name and deceive many. So without prayer and study and meditation we may be having the false Christ.
Can Jesus be found ? The Bible says yes. And when we find Him we found God. How long do we need to find Him ? Stories in the Bible shows we can find Him early and yet to really know Him and have Him in our lives takes a lifetime and even forever.
If His claims are true, then He is worth every moment of our lives. Are we to do anything else aside from Him ? The Bible says seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things (our needs) shall be added unto you. God knows we have other needs but let Him be first and then other things will fall into place ( not as we expect but as He wills).
To reject Jesus is to say you found someone greater. In this age of information or whatever you may call it, I did not see anyone who can surpass Jesus, so I submit myself to His sovereignty, and call Him , my God,my Savior, my Lord. I am aware that I will fail still but I trust in His love, mercy and grace.
Man spends most of his time preparing for the future. Man does a lot of planning, I believe you will agree. We plan several things from parties, to schooling, to marriage, to travel, to work, how to spend our weekend or days off, even retirement, etc.
Have you considered what happens after all these ? how about eternal life or eternal death.
We know from observation that we will all die someday. That sounds morbid but I mentioned that because I believe in the teaching of eternal life through Jesus Christ as taught in the Holy Bible.
Preparing for the future, like eternal life, is a gift from God through Jesus Christ.
To know Jesus is to prepare for the future. I hope you will agree.
Will He make our life smooth ? Will He make us rich ? What does Jesus really does in our lives ? In Matthew 11:28 He said Come unto me those who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. In Luke 9:23 He said, if any man will come after me , let him deny himself , and take up his cross daily, and follow me. In Galatians 2:20 , the apostle Paul wrote I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live yet not I, but Christ live in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of (or in) the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Did you read it carefully ? I read there is rest for those who come to Him, yet we need to deny ourselves, carry our cross (suffering) daily and follow Him. Apostle Paul says he is crucified with Him. So there is pain involved but Jesus lives in us ( I believe through the Holy Spirit).
The lesson is like the story of the footprints in the sand, He walks with us then carry us, when life gets too hard.
We will feel pain and yet Jesus lives in us therefore He feels the pain too.
To answer the question above, we need to come to Jesus, take up our cross daily and follow Him, be crucified with Him and I believe the best part is He will live in us through the Holy Spirit.
Will life be easy or life be rich ? Try it and see .
