Christianity is about hope and as long as we are still breathing God still waiting for even the worst sinners to come to Him.A principal example of that is the thief on the cross who in the moment of his death turn to Jesus Christ.
The prodigal son is another example.
If we feel we have failed in 2015 and have rebelled against God, then let us repent and pray to God to rebuild our lives.
What are the happiest moments of our lives ? They could be anything, our wedding day or our graduation from college or university with or without honors or owning our first car or having our visa approved or having our first ice cream or having our grandchildren or having our debts paid off or having our first business and prospering too or seeing our favorite actor, actress, singer, athlete in person. Generally we are happy when we have our wish or wishes come true.
Could it also be, being in the happiest place on earth ? on our vacation ? even at work when we hear of our promotion?
I hope as you read this blog, you are also recalling happy moments in your lives.
Let me ask you , would you like your happiness to never end ? The fact is our happiness comes and goes. In fairy tales the ending says and they live happily ever after but ours is not fairy tale, it is real , like grass or flower they fade.
In Christian teachings, we are promised eternal life. Will that be happy eternal life ? The Bible says there will no more sorrow, tears and pain and God will wipe away tears from our eyes. Before Jesus died He said " It is finished ". What is finished ? I believe He finished paying for our sins for all eternity. That means the sin that separate us from God has been paid for, heaven is open and available to those who trust in Jesus Christ.
What Christians have now are preview of things to come, so would you believe the best is yet to come ?
Modern man has to carry many things in today's modern times. Let us see what they are wallet with ID, credit cards, cash, driver's license, phone numbers. We also carry watches, cell phones, keys, business cards, pens, who to call for emergencies, medicine, medical cards. If one is travelling we need passports etc.
Before we leave home we also make sure our stoves, iron, hair blowers, lights are off and our doors locked.
We are a people of gadgets, sometimes it gives us convenience and sometimes stress if we could not find our wallets, keys or cell phones.
For Christians these items should be secondary, our first should be to carry Jesus with us. Actually we can not carry Jesus but have Him abide in us. But Jesus said to the apostles or early disciples that He is leaving but the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) will come .
The Bible promised that the Holy Spirit will reside in every believer. We need the Holy Spirit and He will help us.
He will show us truth and glorify God the Father and Jesus Christ.Through the Holy Spirit, God can work through us. Your chosen church should be able to help you on this.
Important reminder, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, seeking Him will reveal truth to us.
Some believe that one must do good works in order to be saved. Some believe that one has only have faith or say the right words (or right prayer) in order to be saved and that one does not need good works. That salvation is dependent on us (our actions). Let us clarify these.
Ephesians 2:8-10 The Holy Spirit using Apostle Paul says: For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
Let us compare above beliefs with the above Bible verses.
On our works for salvation the Bible says "not of works, lest any man should boast.
On our faith (true faith not just words) the Bible says " For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
What are works then ? The Bible says :For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
Faith which is a gift from God will lead to salvation which in turn will lead us to good works.
In other words, when we talk about faith it is not just word but true, believing faith. Works is not something we do to earn salvation but God working in us.
I hope this helps. In false salvation we give ourselves the credit while in true salvation God gets the glory or the credit. God ,the Father, Jesus(the Son), Holy Spirit is our Savior.
When do we get bored ? when we got weary by monotony ( doing the same thing over and over again and getting tired and have lost our joy) or all of a sudden we seem to be at a loss of what to do.
Being a Christian, being bored could be dangerous moment to have because we might be tempted to do something that is not God glorifying, but being bored could be an opportunity to go to next level in our Christian walk.
Pray to God to let us know what is going on and ask Him what He wants us to do. Another one is to look at the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Galatians 5:22,23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance against such there is no law. (Perhaps we are missing one or more ingredients).
Galatians 6:9,10 also says and let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap , if we faint not.
As we have therefore opportunity,(according to St. Paul),let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
There is a song that says what the world need now is love, sweet love. Through worldwide communications and news we are able to observe the world even without leaving our homes. Having lived in the Philippines for 28 years and 35 years in USA, I have observed people from different kinds of life up close and personal.
We all need love and we give love the way we know how. But the world knows different kinds of love. So who will show us true love ?
I believe true love can be found in Jesus Christ. But who is Jesus Christ? was He real ? There are 7 billion people on earth alive now per estimate. How can 7 billion people know about Jesus Christ and His love ? There are many ways , through the Holy Bible, through priests, pastors, preachers, through word of mouth, through television, radio, literature, internet, social media.
I understand there are other religions in the world, is it fair for others for us to tell them about Jesus ? I believe it is fair, what I hear is when others make a personal study on the Bible specially on the life of Jesus, they have to make a decision, to be for or against, or there is no neutral ground.
With the love that God showed through Jesus Christ as taught by the Holy Spirit using human beings , would you agree that the world needs now is the love of Jesus Christ ?
God created us and chose us , and He gave us the ability to choose. Even a small child can refuse or accept what is being fed to him or her.
Let us look at the power of your choice. We can choose to love or believe God or not to love or believe, but we will receive the consequence/s.
In life we face many choices, some hard ones and some easy ones. As we ponder on our choices, I would like to suggest for us to choose God.
How do we choose God ? I believe God gave us His Holy book the Bible to guide us in our decisions. We also have power to select who will teach us.
Again we have the power to choose. It is also possible that we are confused and do not know what or who to choose. In that case, I recommend Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the best choice at all times for eternity.
Do you sense you have done enough seeking in your Christian life that you are now coasting along ? or do you sense that by continuing or diligently seeking God that you will be rewarded (aside from your salvation ) ?
What Bible verse would you use to support your answer ?
Here am I 63 years old and retired and still have trouble scheduling my day.Let me make another effort.
Our Lord Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things (needs) shall be added unto you.
Jesus continued: Take therefore no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Psalm 118:24 says This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalms 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
What can we get from the preceding verses ? That we have a role in and how we spend our days, we can waste a day or spend it wisely.
We can start with our problems or we can seek the Lord first and ask His help. We have a choice. Does that mean not to plan for tomorrow ? By seeking the Lord first we start the day right and as we spend the day right we actually prepare for tomorrow without even thinking. But if we waste our day then this could add to our problem.
Here what I am going to try, spend the day's hours for the Lord, first praying, praising, then the rest for working, playing,sleeping...How about you ?
