You probably thought or heard this before, that it is hard to please God or that God is a cosmic killjoy. That it is hard to follow His commandments. But let us consider the alternatives, which are pleasing ourselves and our fellow men. There was a case of this man who tries to please everybody, himself, his wife, his contractor , his neighbor and the association he belongs too. Even with all the good intentions , conflicts still bound to arise or differences still happens. There is a saying that when one pleases everybody he or she ends up pleasing no one. In the book of Acts, Peter had the choice of obeying men or God and he chose to obey God. I do not know what you experienced but is it not simpler to please one than many ?.That it is easy to please one who does not change than somebody who keeps changing their mind.
In conclusion I believe it is best to please God, although our human nature gets in the way. The older I get the more I see this. It is written, It is the Father's desire to give us His kingdom and to give us His Holy Spirit and He already given us His Son.Would it rather be best to please the One who we know loves us ?
Bro. Bubbavela's blog " Shadows of Death" got me worried for a while till I realized the sovereignty of God. Absolutely no one or nothing can stop the plan of God. Maybe God's people are slackening off or being negligent on our assignment but as the scriptures says " nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. I am not saying that Christians should do nothing but for Christians to return back to obeying God through repentance and once more be used by God. Maybe Bro. Bubbavela's blog is a wake up call.
Today I could not decide on what to blog but deep in me something seems to be bothering me. I just got an e-mail from a friend about an injustice in my native country, I was confused whether to believe it or not or assume it is true, I myself said not to assume. I just read a brother's blog about a possible universal law that is being processed at UN to prohibit fellowshipping between Christians and non Christians, though I don't want to jump into conclusion yet. Prior to these I thought I sense a breakthrough in my life regarding spiritual matters. Sometimes things could be so clear and then the next could be so alarming.
I believe one of the best things I could do is to pray unceasingly. My human understanding and emotion could distort the real perspective. We know that truth will win in the end . The book of Revelation wrote that at a certain time the enemy will wage war with the saints and will overcome them ( the saints). Are we in that period ?
Whatever happens, I will pray unceasingly. I hope you too will do the same.
When I first started working in a power plant over twenty five years ago, I was told to never assume to be one of my working mottos. That two words saved myself and my co-workers several times. Same thing in our Christian life to never assume. Never carelessly assume that we are saved. That do not carelessly interpret scriptures but meditate on it. Seek God's approval on what we do and not the approval of men. Though this is a Christian website, it is easy to assume that everybody are saved, but maybe some unbeliever might decide to check or wander into this website. To those persons I pray that they like us will find and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
One of the things we humans lack is spiritual discernment. To clarify the preceding statement I mean to recognize the genuine from the counterfeit. Even our Lord Jesus Christ is accused of being a blasphemer, an impostor. Only the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth can discern truth from error and those whom He gives the spirit of discernment.
Anyway those who are of the light comes to the Light, the Truth who is our Lord Jesus Christ. I remember a story I heard of a person who said someone appeared to him and claimed to be Jesus, the person said show me your wounds, the figure disappeared.
To be safe, let us examine ourselves and even ask or pray to God to cleanse us. Let us be like the Bereans, who verified the truth. God gave us His written Word for teaching , for reproof , for instruction on righteousness.
God knows who are His and I hope to be one of His children because I believe in His Son Jesus Christ,I am washed by the blood of the Lamb who was sacrificed in the old rugged cross. Amazing grace that saved a wretched like me as the song goes. To those who may be reading this I pray and hope that you too have accepted God's pardon and salvation.
The title of my blog came from one of the episodes of " I love Lucy". If I remember correctly it was Lucy's birthday and no one seems to remember it although in the end Ricky and co. actually prepared a party for her. Before Lucy knew about this , she went to the park and cried and a band with the name " Friends of the friendless " came and consoled her. This reminds me of our Lord Jesus Christ who is a Friend to the outcast of society, a hope for the hopeless, a cure for the incurable, a new beginning for the rejects, a lover for the unlovable, a rescuer for those in bondage... the list could go on and on. I long to see our Lord face to face. I long to bow before His throne.. I know myself and know that on my own I am a mess but Jesus is Faithful and He remains to be a friend. He also gives me other friends like you. If you are not yet a friend, will you be one ?
I remember my younger days, when I was a quiet yet mischievous, spoiled boy.I fought, bullied, wrestled, till I become aware of my bad temper. Growing up still quiet yet with intense desire to score high in school examinations. I enjoyed chess with its attack and defense and the feeling of conquering my opponent. Even when I become a Christian my proud desire was still in me.Years ago, in our small church I tried to deliver an stirring sermon everytime I was assigned to preach when the Pastor is off on vacation.
In my older years I noticed myself mellowing , learning to turn the other cheek, avoiding conflict and confrontation, allowing my wife to make most decisions. I found myself tired and questioning myself, when I try to learn more ways to take advantage of opponent's weaknesses in the game of chess . Am I mellowing with age ? Looks that way.
But still I sense a new fire in me. To be on fire for the Lord. I do not want to be a lukewarm Christian. I feel like shouting to the world. " GET READY OUR LORD IS COMING !!! HALLELUJAH !!! PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!!!
I was planning to study chess on my recurring goal to be a chess master after I read some blogs on this website when I got interested in reading Anne's blog titled " Road back to God". I ended up giving my comment that God wants us to give to Him what is blocking our relationship with Him. It dawned on me that I may be giving that advice to myself. Is my chess goal being a roadblock to my relationship with God? I have to admit that there were times it did. How do I get it under control ? Sometimes I got it under control but sometimes it tries it sneak in.
I will continue to battle with this but maybe if you happen to read this blog and happen to encounter a similar situation, maybe you can give me some advice.
I was studying prophecy in the Bible and seems like one key is the word trump which is found in 1Corinthians 15:52 and 1 Thessalonians 4:16 in the King James Version while other translations used the word trumpet for trump. I looked at the dictionary and trump had many definitions and one of them is trumpet, another one the term that is used in card games. But one definition that caught my attention is trump - a key resource to be used at opportune time. Could trump be referring to this ? I do not know, I may have to study Greek.
Anyway study of Bible prophecy is interesting. We are living in interesting time and only God knows what is going to happen and I believe He revealed it in His Word, the Holy Bible.
Spiritual battle has been going on since the beginning of time. We also encounter this in our personal lives. The Holy Bible and the Holy Spirit are our first line of defense. Even our Lord Jesus Christ encountered fierce spiritual battle. His enemies even call Him names and accused Him as the devil.Everyday that we wake up is a spiritual battle. The Bible assured us that God will fight the battle for us. But I believe we also has a role to play. Our enemy is well experienced in battle.
Sometimes our enemy is ourselves and that is one of the hardest battle to fight. As I mentioned earlier the Holy Bible and the Holy Spirit are our first line of defense. We have to examine ourselves first if we are in the faith.Take King David for example, who was referred to as a man of God's own heart, but yet in his life he slipped into sin but thank God for repentance and forgiveness because he was eventually restored.I like 1John 4:4 " Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world."
By the way, prayers also are needed in our battle/s.
