2. Inheritance in Christ

Read the epistle of 1 John

Main Themes:

All three letters along with the Gospel of John were written probably from Ephesus between A.D, 85-95. The letters indicate that the readers were confronted with the error of Gnosticism which became a more serious problem in the second century. As a philosophy of religion, it held that matter is evil and spirit is good. The solution to the tension between these two was knowledge or "gnosis", through which man rose from the mundane to the spiritual.

In the Gospel message this led to two false theories concerning the person of Christ -- Docetism, regarding the human Jesus as a ghost (that is, the view that Christ only seemed to have a body), and Cerinthianism, making Jesus a dual personality, at times human and at times devine.

Some of the highlights of 1 John:

a. A warning against the love of the world.

b. An exhortation to abide in the truth; with the assurance that the divine anointing will give all needed instruction.

c. Brotherly love is the distinguishing mark of spiritual life; when perfected casts out fear.

d. The outcome of love is assurance and answered prayer.

e. Acceptance of Christ as advocate and propitiatory sacrifice.

f. The antichrist mindset that denies Christ.

Affirmations (Repeat and Meditate on These as You Go Throughout the Day):

I John 4:13 - He has put His own Holy Spirit into my heart as a proof to

me that I am living with Him and He is with me.

I John 5:4 - Since I am a child of God I am able to defeat the world. The way I have victory over the world is with my faith.

I John 5: 11,12 - Since I have the Son of God I have eternal life.

I John 5; 14,15 - I can approach God with confidence for this reason: If I make requests which are in accord with His will he listens to me: and if I know that my requests are heard, I know also that the things I ask for are mine.

I John 5:20 - I know that Christ, God’s Son, has come to help me understand and find the true God; and I am in God because I am in Jesus Christ His Son, who is the only true God; and He is eternal life.

5. Quiz Answers - Mark Chapter 1

We neglect to pay the price for the presence of God and wind up wandering around in a wilderness of our own making, being pursued by Satan.

Everything begins with total abandonment, total surrender and total hunger for the living Christ -- not the things He gives or imparts, but Christ and Christ alone.

Psalm 63:1 -- O God You are my God; early will I see You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.

Jeremiah 29:13,14 -- And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you says the Lord.

Into Action

Write out, memorize and meditate on a verse in each of the following Psalms that will bring you closer to the presence of God:
Psalm 4
Psalm 27
Psalm 30

I know it's not enough just to know God's will. I continue to seek the Lord until I know God's plan for accomplishing that will.

Paul mentioned in Ephesians 6:17 that the believer is to "take the helmet of salvation." This verse helps to show the need for the deliverance of the human mind. - Watchman Nee

Our new song is to be a song of all God has done for us. Truly, your most effective testimony is to brag to other people about what God has done for you this week. Tell people what He did just yesterday, or even this morning. Then your song will always be new. - Myles Munroe

"Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy." - Psalm 33:3

If your hopes are being disappointed just now, it means that they are being purified. - Oswald Chambers

I am a living stone, built into the spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

God sent His Son to die for you. And Jesus gave you a blood-bought right to an abundant life full of meaning and purpose! He gave you a blood-bought right to walk in divine health all the days of your life! He gave you a blood-bought right to prosperity even when the economy goes down! - Joseph Prince

Affirmation: I forget those things which are behind, and press toward the mark for the prize of the High calling of God in Christ Jesus.

God has given us something to do, He has given us a demonstration to make. If we do not make it, then we have nor more right to the claims that we make of being sons of God than the other people. If God be God, serve Him. - John Lake

Never judge God's love for you based on your unfavorable circumstances. No, look at the cross instead! The cross is the sure symbol of God's love for you. It is at the cross that "God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us." (Rom. 5:8) - Joseph Prince

"Be ready at all times to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you, but do it with gentleness and respect." - 1 Peter 3:15,16

If you rely on your own reasoning and ability rather than on the virtue of submission to Jesus Christ, you will seldom attain wisdom. For God wills that we become perfectly obedient to Himself, and that we transcend mere reason on the wings of a burning love for Him. - Thomas a Kempis

I doubt that the world will ever take Christians seriously again until they are prepared to become fools for Christ's sake. - Colin Morris

Affirmation:

I allow the seed of incredible potential within me to be released and display the glory of God to the world!

If you have never used your imagination to put yourself before God, begin to do it now. It is no use waiting for God to come; you must put your imagination away from the face of idols and look unto Him. Imagination is the greatest gift God has given us and it ought to be devoted entirely to Him. - Oswald Chambers

We pray feebly because we live feebly. The stream of prayer cannot rise higher than the fountain of living. We simply cannot talk to God, strongly, intimately, and confidently unless we are living for him, faithfully and truly. - E. M. Bounds

"My zeal for God and His work burns hot within me." - Psalm 69:9

The true Church has no members but those of whom it can be said, "Christ in you, the hope of glory." And no man is outside the Church except as he is described in these terms, "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." - William Law

We need to move to our next place of glory. For that we must receive new revelation from God. If you are in a place of confusion, listen for God's voice to receive the necessary instructions that will bring new order to your life and circumstances. - Chuck Pierce

Believing God For The Impossible

Acts 3:6,7 -- But Peter said, silver and gold I do not have; but what I do have, that I give to you: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk! Then he took hold of the man's right hand with a firm grip and raised him up. And at once his feet and ankle bones became strong and steady.

Part of the problem is this: we are accustomed only to doing things for God that are not impossible. If God doesn't show up and help us, we can still succeed. There must be an aspect of the Christian life that is impossible without divine intervention that keeps us on the edge and puts us in contact with our true calling.

John 14:13,14 -- "Whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it."

Into Action

Name two impossible things that need to come to pass in your life that you need to believe God for.

Write 2 affirmations based on scripture for each to support your belief.

Never tell a person something can't be done, because God may have been waiting for centuries for someone ignorant enough to believe that the impossible could be possible. - Myles Munroe

"You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

Information overload can become a huge barrier to your God-given dreams, leaving little time for intimacy and communication with the One who seeks to bring those seeds inside you to greatness. - Steve Munsey

Am I spending time in His presence? Everything depends on this. -- Andrew Murray

Affirmation:

I present my body as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is my reasonable service.

The Holy Spirit is given to make us witnesses, and His own work is to highlight the work of Christ and actuate it in human lives. If we want to move in the Spirit, we need to get into that kind of activity because that is what He is doing. - Reinhard Bonnke

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses .... to the end of the earth."

- Acts 1:8

Affirmation: My ever praising God transforms the negative assault of the enemy into a spring of sweet waters which refreshes me.

It is not that I will not hear God, but I am not devoted in the right place. I am devoted to things, to service, to convictions, and God may say what He likes but I do not hear Him. - Oswald Chambers

When we emphasize personal salvation more than a personal Savior, we are asking people to put their trust in an experience rather than in Jesus Christ. - Ros Rinker

It should be our goal every day to see the Lord more clearly, to be more occupied with Him so that He will more fully occupy our heart. - Rich Joyner

Fallow ground is ground which has once been tilled but which now lies waste. It needs to be broken up and mellowed before it is again ready to receive grain. Examine and note the state of your mind - see where you are. Go deep and turn the ground up so that it will all be mellow and soft. Then it will be ready to receive the seed and bear fruit a hundredfold. - Charles Finney

"And other seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain..."

- Mark 4:9

When you ask yourself, "Do I have enough faith?" you have already put faith as a hindrance between you and Jesus' finished work. The more you focus on your faith, the more faith slips away. But if you focus on the finished work of Christ and see God's grace toward you, God sees that as faith! - Joseph Prince

Pride has a devilish quality that keeps us from sensing our need for God's grace. - Jim Cymbala

Affirmation:

The power that I have been given to testify of the coming Kingdom is the power of life, which is more precious than anything I could ever possess on this earth.

Begin your day by walking the floor & worshiping God. You've got to stir up the gift that's within you and get your mind functioning right. (2Tim1:6) - Norvel Hayes

Do not be like the theologian who after death was given the choice between going to Heaven or going to a lecture on Heaven and chose the lecture. - Peter Kreeft

The spirit of worship dies of familiarity. Let's not fear discovering a new place of worship. It will probably be more a new place in our hearts or attitudes, rather than to a new physical site; but we sometimes need to be pointed away from the worn valleys of our familiar ways to the mountain of God's assignment. - Jack Hayford

"Teach me your way, O Lord;....I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore." - Psalm 86:11,12

Affirmation: I exhort others into Kingdom realities.

Our grasp of what is going on around us is warped by our episodes of pain - they create "filters" that muffle what we hear and see. Your filter will disqualify you; it will mute out any promise or commission from God that exceeds your preconceived limits. This negative cloud will delay and dilute God's voice to you. - Mario Murillo

We will be much better off if we spent more time building up our inner man that the outer. The Lord has invested "the riches of His glory" in our inner man, so how much more value should we give to it? - Rick Joyner

"That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strentghened with power through His Spirit in the inner man." Ephesians 3:15,16

Affirmation: God has called me with a holy calling, not according to my works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to me in Christ Jesus before the world began.

"Adoration" is the spontaneous yearning of the heart to worship, honor, magnify, and bless God. We ask for nothing but to cherish Him. We seek nothing but his exaltation. We focus on nothing but His goodness. In the prayer of adoration we love God for Himself, for His very being, for His radiant Joy. - Richard Foster

Every member in the body of Christ has a ministry. No one who is born again is without a calling. We all have a function, or ministry, as a member of the body of Christ. - Markus Bishop

"Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these different graces of God, put yourselves at the service of others." - 1 Peter 4:10
